Lectors and Intercessors

St. Paul's welcomes new members into these ministries.

Contacts for Lectors:

The contact for lectors is Caulley Deringer. He can be reached at 703-749-9415 (office), 703-960-0678 (home), or caulley_deringer@transwestern.com. We welcome new members into this ministry and have a good system whereby a schedule is set far enough in advance for the reader to spot a conflict and find a substitute. Changes to the schedule should be e-mailed to news@stpaulsalexandria.com with a cc to caulley_deringer@transwestern.com and judith@stpaulsalexandria.com. Please make every effort to provide schedule changes at least a week in advance so the correct reader names can be printed in the bulletin.

Notes for Lectors:

Lectors read in the order in which their names appear. The first reading is the Old Testament. The second reading is the Epistle. If the letter "G" appears behind your name, you will read the Gospel. This occurs only at the 11:00 a.m. service on the Sundays with Morning Prayer, which is the third Sunday of each month. A copy of the bulletin is emailed to all scheduled lectors by noon on the Friday before the service. If you haven't received a copy of the bulletin before this time, please feel free to call the parish office at 703-549-3312 to obtain a copy.

Lectors can facilitate the smooth running of the service by:
sitting near the front of the church on the side of the lectern
being in place (without haste and without a gap in the service) for your reading
introducing the reading: “A reading from the Book of Genesis,” no chapter and no verse reference, and by ending the reading with, “The Word of the Lord.”

Contacts for Intercessors:

The contact for intercessors at the 11:00 a.m. service is Sissy Walker who can be reached at 571-331-4161 or espwalker@comcast.net.

Notes for Intercessors:

Since the names on the prayer list change so frequently, the prayers are not sent to intercessors in advance of the service. Please check-in with clergy ten minutes before the start of the service (they can be found in the vesting room at this time). Checking-in accomplishes two things: (1) service leaders know that you are present, and (2) that you will receive the most up-to-date prayer list. Clergy members are happy to answer questions concerning the pronunciation of names.
